Western Modular started out as a way to help pay for fire fighters training for Canada's private fire fighting sector. At that time it was never imagined what it would become. Westmod started out as VTE Fabrication in Surrey BC, doing small modifications, Painting and Media Blasting and also building Roll-Off Containers. Eventually as the owners visions were more directed towards the fire department the company became Fire Containers. With Derek's employment and direct contacts with the shipping lines they were able to buy containers and sell them putting a portion of the profit towards the Fire Department. As the economy changed and private fire departments were pushed out of the scope of BC's fire fighting efforts the name didn't seem to quite fit the future for this company. Then, Western Modular was born. Being based in Western Canada and specializing in building amazing structures from shipping containers the name stuck. Today Western Modular sits on a 40 acre property in Haztic BC next to the beautiful Fraser River.
